Born in Hawkinsville, Georgia, Ms. Jackson-Saunders is an accomplished graduate from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and the Howard University. At Howard, she specialized in Gifted Curriculum while pursuing her Master's in Educational Psychology. She also holds a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) in School Psychology. Currently serving as the treasurer of the DC Association of School Psychologists and the Professional Development Coordinator for School Psychologists in the District of Columbia Public Schools, she continues to contribute extensively to her field. On a personal front, Chandrai Jackson-Saunders is married to Nathan A. Saunders, a social studies teacher, is a proud mother to her son, Nathan A. Saunders, III, and is a lifelong advocate for the Washington Teachers’ Union.

Chandrai Jackson-Saunders is a nationally certified school psychologist with over three decades of experience in providing counseling and support services to students and families across the District of Columbia Public School System. Most prominently, she served as the School Psychologist at Garfield Elementary School for 13 years. While there, Ms. Jackson-Saunders initiated numerous programs aimed at promoting student wellbeing including the Character Education Class, a Weekly Parent Training program and the Joyful Food Market. She also led her Garfield Behavior Instructional Leadership Team in implementing social-emotional learning. Under her guidance, the school won the kind-heartedness Challenge sponsored by WHUR and Kings Dominion two consecutive years and undertook charitable initiatives, such as distributing meals and toiletries to the homeless.
